7. Discipline vs. Regret

“Not used to putting your feelings into words, let alone sharing your feelings with someone else? Not used to trusting someone with all of the heavy stuff? Totally normal. Just don’t let that fear of discomfort turn into regret. Sometimes we may put off something in order to feel better in the short term which actually creates a longer term and bigger issue. Showing up consistently (discipline), expecting some discomfort, while working through things is going to be a much more productive and beneficial choice than waiting or never starting (regret). Therapy may be uncomfy (to a client) at first but, like all new things, you adjust. Some pre-first session nerves are normal and expected. Of course if you truly do not feel like your therapist is a good fit after several sessions, it may be time to bring it up to them so that you can get the help you need. Remember: Therapy is for YOU, not for the therapist.”
